These regulations replace the water byelaws previously issued by the water companies and their prime function is to protect the quality of the water supply.
The government has made the water companies responsible for the enforcement of these regulations, and so water companies have a legal obligation to ensure that they have been implemented, including the inspection of new and existing installations.
