| Each year the business
community spends a fortune on water bills but
many companies spend far more than they need to
and are quite literally seeing funds, and profits,
go down the drain. Every drop of water causes
the water metre to tick round another notch which,
as the Government encourages businesses to become
water wise, means water economy should be firmly
on the agenda.
With some inexpensive water management, companies
could see some considerable cost savings on their
water bills while at the same time helping to
protect the environment.
For example, did you know that schools in the
UK spend around £70 million per year on
water? That's around 4,000 litres per pupil per
year, and the water bill for a large secondary
school can be as much as £20,000. In a demonstration
project, the Environment Agency proved that by
implementing some simple water controls, such
as installing timed flow controls and flow limiters
on showers and push button spray taps, substantial
savings were made. In fact Chesswood Middle School
in Worthing managed to save 75% of its water bill
with these straightforward measures equating to
a £3,000 annual reduction. The payback period
for the school's investment was just over a year,
but even by just fitting infra-red urinal controls,
a 60% water economy saving on the school's previous
urinal flush method was achieved.
The Environment Agency has also proved that other
business such as leisure centres, offices and
hotels could feel the benefits of water economy
measures. Even small hotels (up to 50 bedrooms)
saw savings of between £139 and £1,605
by simply addressing issues such as flow limiters
in showers in en-suites and replacing running
taps in public washrooms.
Water economy makes commercial sense, it makes
environmental sense - in short for any business
it is common sense. The Sirrus range of commercial
water controls is designed with the philosophy
that 'every drop counts' and can help to significantly
reduce your water bills. |
